Hello everyone! So today I'm going to be talking about the anime Gosick. A really good show from Studio Bones! Oh how I love them so... But anyway on with the review!
The Story
Gosick follows a school in a made up country in Europe. Where new boy Kujo has recently transfered to from Japa. Upon arriving at this school he finds a library at the top of a tower building where he meets a girl called Victorica, and the story progresses from there as they solve crimes in a slightly episodic way. Well until around midway through where they decide to scrap it for a world war story instead, which honestly made me kind of annoyed as I enjoyed the episodic crime solving charm the show had.
The Characters
With this show there are only two characters that you can really talk about. Kujo the kind hearted transfer student that was entertaining to watch from time to time but not the greatest. And Victorica, the stubborn antisocial girl, who is obsessed with stuff that is out of the ordinary and books. I personally enjoyed her as a character more the Kujo.
Animation and Soundtrack
The animation is standard for a bones show, and that means it was amazing, I really loved how beautiful they made the backgrounds! There is so much detail to them and the tones used suit the situations really well. The soundtrack I though was OK, nothing special, however the opening and second ending were both really good and I felt like it deserves some form of mention.
My Opinion
Honestly I thought it was a very average show in the end, if it stuck to the format it had during the first half of the show I felt it would have been a lot better off. I was actually kind of disappoint by this show as Studio Bones are one of my favourite one studios and this wasn't the best anime I've ever seen.
Final Verdict
I know I didn't enjoy the show as much as I hoped I would, but I'm still going to give it a very respectable 7.23 out of 10. As much as I didn't really enjoy it, I can give credit where credit is due, it wasn't all that bad and I feel it should be something you should watch. At the time I am unaware of any licencing for the UK or America but I will correct it if I discover it has been licence.
If you have seen the show Gosick, do you agree with what I said? Or do you disagree? Let me know! I love varying opinions!
